Mission Operation Architect
Mission Operations Architect - Earth Observation Constellation
You'll be joining at a pivotal moment - ahead of the first satellite launch for their Earth Observation constellation- and will play a central role in building the operational infrastructure, team, and processes that will carry the mission through launch, commissioning, and long-term routine operations from this German start-up!
This is a rare opportunity to take full ownership of ground segment operations and shape the operational framework for a system that will scale to form the largest constellation in this area.
Who is this role for?
This role is ideal for someone with several years in the space industry and hands-on experience with constellations, looking for greater autonomy, the chance to build a team, and influence mission-critical decisions. Prior operational experience with constellations is essential.
Whether you aim to lead the operations division long-term or transition into another area of the company, your goals will be supported. The team is committed to bringing someone on board for the long haul and will ensure your expertise continues to be valued.
With a flexible remote setup, the freedom to shape your path, and real impact on the mission, this is a unique opportunity for someone who values both growth and influence.
What You'll Do:
Architect the Mission Operations Backbone
Design and implement the mission operations architecture from the ground up
Define operational concepts, mission scenarios, and contingency strategies
Lead the development and automation of TMTC scripts and mission control tools
Ensure seamless integration across ground, payload, and space systems
Lead and Grow the Operations Team
Build a high-performing mission operations team
Work closely with executive leadership and engineering leads to align strategy and execution
Drive Operational Readiness and Execution
Oversee all mission operations activities from pre-launch through LEOP, commissioning, and routine ops
Coordinate with external partners including satellite manufacturers and ground station providers
Own mission planning, analysis, and control center operations
Support system-level testing and launch campaign preparation
What You Bring
8+ years in mission operations engineering, with experience across both space and ground segments
5+ years in more senior roles, ideally in fast-paced or startup environments
Strong grasp of operations architecture and system integration, with the ability to connect ground systems, payloads, and mission software
Experience working with NewSpace-style constellations or agile satellite programs
Familiarity with industry standards (ECSS, CCSDS, ISO, BSI) and operational tooling
Strategic mindset with a hands-on approach - you're comfortable leading but also diving into the details when needed
Experience working with or sourcing components from external partners (e.g., platform providers, integrators)
Why This Role?
High Impact: You'll be the architect of a mission-critical function, with full ownership and the ability to shape the future of the constellation's operations.
Leadership Track: As the constellation scales, you'll have the option to grow into broader leadership or pivot into specialized areas like systems engineering - your path is yours to define.
Flexible Work Model: Hybrid setup with an initial onboarding period mostly on-site, followed by monthly visits to the space team's hub in northern Germany. Otherwise, you can work remotely!
Compensation: Made up of base salary and equity - approximately €90k package including equity with additional mission-related bonuses to start.
Relocation Support: Available on a case-by-case basis for candidates willing to relocate.
Additional Info
Citizenship Restrictions: Due to regulatory constraints, applicants from certain countries may be ineligible unless citizenship has been relinquished.
Timeline: First satellite launch targeted within the next 12 months; mid-term goal is 20 satellites in orbit.
Interview Process: Two stages - initial virtual interview with engineering leadership team, followed by an on-site visit to meet the broader team.
